Cutting-Edge Treatment for Tooth Decay

Goodbye to Numbing Shot and Drilling

Beverly Pediatric Dentistry is at the forefront of dental treatment technologies for kids and teenagers. We offer the latest knowledge and cutting-edge technologies to eliminate cavities for children without using the traditional approach of numbing the tooth and drilling out decayed tooth structure. As part of our commitment to make every visit a happy and memorable experience for our young patients and their parents, we are proud to be among the practices in the United States to offer such treatment.

What is SDF?

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) was used by Japan for treating of dental decayed over 80 years ago. The US Food and Drug Administration approved SDF in 2014. In 2017 American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry released its guidelines for using SDF in children and adolescents.

How does it work?

Using a small brush, the pediatric dentist applies SDF, which is in the form of liquid, to the decayed part of the tooth. SDF oxidizes the cavity. Usually, it is applied once or twice a year, and the decay will be monitored by X-rays every year. SDF contains silver which kills the bacteria causing decay, Fluoride for remineralization of decayed parts of the tooth, and other propriety elements to stabilize the medicine. Application of SDF needs no injection or drilling. There is no need to remove the decay. It is tolerated very well by children and is accepted by patients better than regular fillings. SDF can be applied to both primary and permanent teeth.

How much does it cost?

The cost is a fraction of traditional fillings and many insurance companies cover the cost.
